  1. Richard,
    Nice website.
We have a holiday home in Foussais – bought in 2002.
You forgot the dentist, doctor, vet, garage, acupuncturist and the specialist chocalate/biscuit shop. There was an englishman making stained glass (near the tabac) but I think he’s moved on.
A village of this size in UK probably wouldn’t have any of these shops and services and the post office would be closing. We didn’t know about the baker with a flour allergy.
My daughter, her partner and two grand-daughters (3 months & 21 months) were over at end of May-08 (half-term).
We’re now looking forward to 3 weeks holiday in August and spending more time in Foussais when I retire (I’ll be 60 later this year).
My wife, Ros, is a school nurse, so we’re still tied to school hols. We live in Bedford. I’m a civil engineer in the water industry.
I sometimes play petanque on Thursday afternoon in Foussais (car park) with the ‘trosieme age’ club which I understand exists all over France. Two other englishman play. I shook hands with the new major last time I played.
Our French is poor – we manage to communicate but struggle to hold a conversation – must work on that.
    Hope to meet you sometime.

  2. Hi Jon & Ros, great to hear from you. I knew I would miss out so many things that Foussais has to offer – it really has so much going on, it’s such a great place to be. Good to hear you’re returning soon – let me know when you’re going to be in town and we’ll try to catch up. Although I’m probably a bit young to join in the petanque with the “troisieme age” club, we could certainly offer some moral support :)
Keep in touch and feel free to offer a comment if you think of anything I could be saying about this great place.
    Cheers,
    Richard

  3. Hello Richard – Thanks for the comment – We are not a million miles away – Fontenay is about an hour ish from here – How long has the blog been running?
MIne is more food orientated as you can see, but I intend to introduce a bit about the area – like the piece on the markets etc

  4. He Helen, thanks for dropping by. The blog has been up and running since March this year, so just about 6 months. It would be good to see a bit about your areas as well as the food – gives everything a bit of context.
Anyway, hope you keep coming back to read and I’ll certainly keep up to date with you.
    Have fun!

    Richard

  5. Oh, not by the sea then…?!

  6. LOL No. not directly. But only 1 hour from the beach, which is where we spend many of our weekends…

  7. Hi Richard,

I was looking for info on Foussais and your blog was at the top of the Google page!

We’re in Canada and interested in renting a gite there – 19 rue de La Vendee – for a week this summer. My husband’s French but neither of us knows that part of France which is why its on the family holiday plan this year.

Thanks for your blog. I’m so happy to find out that it’s a nice place!
    Susan

  8. Hey Susan! Is this THE Susan Boyrie?

    Godbless!
